Project 971 Akula II SSN

Greetings all.
I am seeking details of the hatch arrangement on the upper casing of an Akula II submarine. I have been unable to find any good plans, but the net has at least provided many photos. These details are needed for me to complete a 1/32 scale model I am building, and it would help me detail the outer casing fittings. In particular, the hatches for the berthing lines, fairleads and bollards are important as the model will be radio controlled and used in a large body of salt water. Also hatch details for the masts and other fittings on the fin (US sail) would be appreciated. And why was "Drakon" renamed "Samara"?

Russia to develop new strategic bomber by 2017

Russia to develop new strategic bomber by 2017

RIA Novosti

23/12/200920:26

MOSCOW, December 23 (RIA Novosti) - A new-generation Tu strategic bomber will be developed by 2017, Russian aircraft maker Tupolev said on Wednesday.

Company President Alexander Bobryshev told Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin the research on the new aircraft project should be completed by 2012, while production-line assembly should start in 2020 to 2025.

However, Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev, commander of Russia's strategic aviation said on Tuesday a new strategic bomber, which will use stealth technology, is expected to enter service in 2025-2030

He said the stealth technology will make "the new aircraft difficult to detect by radar, although it is impossible to make airplanes of this type completely invisible."

The new bomber will replace the Tu-95MC Bear and Tu-160 Blackjack strategic bombers, and Tu-22M3 Backfire long-range bombers currently in service with Russia's strategic aviation.

According to various sources, in addition to 16 Tu-160 bombers, the Russian Air Force currently has 40 Tu-95MS bombers and 141 Tu-22M3 bombers in service.

These aircraft will form the backbone of the Russian strategic aviation in the next decade following extensive modernization.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/russia/2009/russia-091223-rianovosti01.htm

Okay..so after PAKFA Russia also want a new bomber.. in the class of Tu-160 , and possibly armed with Kh-101 or Kh-555 Missiles as her main armaments.

Hmm as for "what it will look alike" ?

here's my representative

due today's advanced technology in aerodynamics, i think Russian design buereau would leave the "Swing Wing" layout which , despite improves performance; but add complexity and reduce internal volume of the bomber.

The combination of aerodynamic design features for extreme agility, high thrust/weight performance supersonic cruise engines to provide supersonic persistence, and the large combat persistence provided by a large internal fuel load and large weapons loads, make the PAK-FA the best fit to the Boyd “energy manoeuvrability” model yet to be developed.

The extreme agility of the PAK-FA design, when employed harmoniously with the other 5th generation design features, opens up a range of new tactical options, not feasible with established or currently planned Western fighter designs.

I have studied the Warfare.ru site carefully, and nowhere does it mention that the AT-14 Kornet is actually in use in the Russian army, although it is obviously exported. Wikipedia states it is in service, with c2300 launchers with 8000 missiles, but that is never an authoritave source.

Can anyone confirm that the Kornet is in use in the Russian army, and if so how is it deployed? Do they replace the battalion level AT-4 Spigots in the Motorised Battalions, or replace the Brigade level Konkurs "BRDM-3" AT-5 Spandrel on some form of SP mount? Or both? Or neither?

Perimeter ("Dead Hand")

In mid-1970 years in Leningrad, it beganthe development of management systems for strategic missile troops - RVSN. In the documents it received the name "Perimeter". The system assumes the creation of such hardware and software that would allow in any circumstances, even the most disadvantaged, to bring order missile launches directly to the aggressor. By the conception the "Perimeter" system could produce the preparation and launching of nuclear missiles, even if all government and military management and population died and to order there would be none. This system was informally called the "dead hand".

The logic of action of "dead hand" involves the regular gathering and processing of huge volume of data. Been received from various sensors of the different information. For example, on the state lines with a higher command post: there is a connection - no connection. On the radiological situation in the adjoining district: normal levels of radiation - elevated levels of radiation. The presence on the launch pad of people: there are people - no people. On the reported nuclear explosions and so on and so forth.

"Dead hand" has the ability to analyze changes in the military and political situation in the world - the system has assessed the team received for a certain period of time, and on this basis could be concluded that in the world something is wrong. When the system believed that it was her time, she stepped up and run the command preparation for launch of missiles.
The "dead hand" could not begin active operations in peacetime. Even if the lack of communication, even if the whole a crew left the launch pad, there was still plenty of other options that would have blocked the system.
In the 1990s, Izhmash designers developed the unified complex of Kalashnikov assault rifles chambered for domestic 7.62 x 39mm, 5.45 x 39mm cartridges as well as the 5.56 x 45mm NATO cartridge to expand the export capabilities of the enterprise.

These assault rifles can be supplied to traditional Russian clients and NATO standard-oriented countries.

The complex comprises assault rifles for general purpose use (AK-74M, AK-101, AK-103) and for auxiliary designation (AK-102, AK-104, AK-105). All of them feature a high degree of unification in the construction of the assemblies and parts as well as the in technology of their manufacture.
